What it's about
The Corporate Legal team is a trusted partner to the firm and its internal stakeholders, providing pragmatic legal advice across a wide range of matters and strategic projects. With a strong commercial mindset, the team helps enable the business while protecting the firm’s interests and reputation.
Partners Group is seeking a dynamic and experienced (Senior) Legal Counsel, Data Privacy & Technology to join its Corporate Legal team. In this role, you will help shape the firm’s approach to data privacy and technology law across its global operations, with a particular focus on Europe and the GDPR.
You will advise on compliance with data privacy regulations, support technology-related legal matters, and work closely with management and key stakeholders to identify and mitigate legal risks. The role offers broad exposure to strategically important, high-impact projects, as well as significant scope to take ownership and drive meaningful change.
Key roles and responsibilities:
- Be a strategic advisor to stakeholders (including senior management) on data privacy, AI, cybersecurity and technology law
- Drive and continuously improve GDPR compliance (and related frameworks), flagging emerging risks early and proposing practical responses
- Lead negotiation and drafting of commercial agreements (e.g., MSAs, tech and HR contracts), including DPAs and TIAs
- Build and evolve data protection governance: policies, procedures, templates and decision-making frameworks that scale globally
- Lead the legal response to data breaches and data subject requests, coordinating with relevant functions
- Create and deliver privacy training and awareness that actually sticks and supports a privacy-by-design culture
- Steer global privacy initiatives and act as an internal subject matter expert people want to involve early
- Manage external counsel efficiently and serve as a key contact point for regulators/public authorities when needed
- Law degree and bar admission (Swiss bar admission a plus)
- 4–10 years of relevant experience (international law firm and/or in-house; financial services and/or tech exposure preferred)
- Strong, hands-on knowledge of GDPR and privacy risk management in real-world business settings
- Proven strength in drafting/negotiating technology and commercial contracts, including privacy and data transfer provisions
- Confident judgment under pressure (e.g., incident response) with the ability to balance legal risk, urgency, and business priorities
- Clear communicator who can simplify complex topics and influence decisions across levels and functions
- Organised, pragmatic, improvement-minded—someone who leaves things better than they found them
- Fluent English; German is an advantage
